 I Found A Pigeon

Thank you for caring enough about our feathered friends to make the effort and take the time to look for the lost racing pigeon's owner. Please take a moment to read the information below and fill out the form with the required information. We will contact the owner and he/she will get back to you as soon as possible.

What do I do?
What do the numbers and letters on the band mean?

The colour of the band changes each year. A fancier can tell the age of the bird by the colour of the band.

A racing pigeon's life band has letters and numbers that help us identify who it belongs to. The National Organizations that issue these bands register the bands to the member that purchases these life bands. All band will have the year they were issued printed on them. For example 06 or 2006, 99 or 1999. They also will have the initials of the National Organization that issued the bands printed on them. In North America they are as follows:

Racing Pigeon Associations

CU   Canadian Racing Pigeon Union Inc.
AU   The American Racing Pigeon Union
IF     International Federation-USA

Fancy and Show Pigeon Associations

CFPA  Canadian Pigeon Fanciers Association
NPA
National Pigeon Association

There may or may not be club letters on the band. They would be there in addition to the National Organization initials. All the foregoing information on the band will be followed by a series of numbers.

All this information together forms a unique identifier for each and every pigeon banded by members of the above National Organizations. No two pigeons will ever be banded with the exact same information on its band.

Now that you understand what all those letters and numbers mean and you have the complete information for the pigeon you found please fill in the form below and we will contact the owner who in turn will get in touch with you.

If the Pigeon is a 2007 banded bird, the band list with the registered owner's name and available contact information can be viewed here.

Important

We can only help you with CU or CRPU banded pigeons.
For pigeons banded with life bands issued by any other National Organization please contact them using the links above.

If the pigeon does not carry a life band on its leg we regret that we cannot help trace the owner. If you are concerned about the pigeons well being we suggest that you contact your local humane society.
